Kids and seniors can or cannot dine in? Perak eatery operators confused over SOP

There has been some confusion among eatery operators over the standard operating procedure (SOP) in allowing children and senior folk to dine in during the recovery movement control order (MCO) currently in force.Perak Coffeeshop Association chairman Ooi Beng Yeaw (pic) said its members were baffled because there were no clear and firm guidelines.”Many members are still not clear whether children aged 12 or below and senior citizens aged 60 and above are allowed to dine in.”Some members say they can, while others say cannot.”I hope the government can give us businessmen a clearer SOP so that members won’t get fined if they get caught unknowingly.”The RM1,000 fine is quite hefty and the revenue we get might not be enough to pay for it,” he said when contacted Tuesday (June 16).Another restaurant owner, who only wanted to be known as Wong, said she had been informed by another owner that customers are only “not encouraged” to bring children aged 12 or below to dine in.”I’ve called up the state Covid-19 operations centre to check on it and was told that customers are not allowed to bring their children aged 12 or below to dine in.”Having also checked the SOP by the National Security Council (NSC), there was nothing on it that says otherwise.”I’ve planned to put up a notice but I’m still unsure which one to follow,” she said.A check on the SOP for eateries, as set by the NSC, did not say anything about disallowing children or senior folk into an eatery for dine-in.The SOP included the mandatory temperature checks and recording of the relevant details of the workers and customers. It also stipulates that tables should be 2m apart to allow at least 1m social distancing and that each table cannot have more than four people.Premises also need to state clearly how many customers are allowed at one time, while alcohol-based sanitisers and soap must be prepared.Customers are only allowed between 7am and 10pm.
