The role of MSCSPGA during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.
When MCO started from 18th March, 2020, all walks of life have been very much impacted. Coffee shop proprietors are not left out. MSCSPGA as a Federation umbrella body, with the present situation, we just cannot do much for the whole industry. We feel that only our Govt can have the stimulus package to help the country including our f&b industry.
Therefore we, MSCSPGA, from the very start, have been in contact with Majlis Tindakan Ekonomi. We wrote in memo to the MTE giving three (3) suggestions so that they can be included in the stimulus package.
Our suggestions are as follows: (1) That our Govt has to urge the private sectors to emulate the steps taken by the Govt by reducing rentals for all the Govt owned premises or waiving rental for as long as 6 months. Note: MTE has accepted this suggestion by urging the private sectors to reduce or to waive the rental. The govt is offering tax relief on condition the reduction much be more than 30%.
(2) Members’ cash flow or funds : we suggested that the Govt should urge Banks to give interest-free loan to members who are short of fund. Note: MTE accepted this suggestion too. Members can apply to BSN for 10 thousand ringgit interest-free loan.
(3) We suggested too that the Govt should emulate Australian Govt’s”Jobkeeper Payment” scheme whereby the Aust Govt pays for the wages of workers for companies whose threshold is less than $1 billion annually. Note: MTE included this in the stimulus package too. Members can apply to Socso for workers’ pay subsidy as much as RM1200 per worker, on condition that employers cannot retrench workers for as long as 6 months.
